Lichen symbolism

My son Veeti picked up a lichen in the forest. He was super happy with it and even more happy when he saved it by putting it back on the cliff⛰ He really is a "nature boy", as he puts it 💚

Lichens are a unique set of beings. They are a combination of plant (algae) and fungus. And yet more like singular beings rather than colonies.

Lichens are really good indicators of how polluted the air in a given location is. Lichens are very sensitive to airborne pollutants as they gain some of their nutrients from the air, and the more lichens you see and the bigger they are, the healthier the air is. Try to take care not step on them, as they take a long time to grow back.
